Here is a thread in which we can explore the mystery of Tom Bombadil. I would ask all of you who want to participate not to get links from somewhere else, but go and search the books, draw your own conclusions, search the web etc. But please, don't go to the Plaza, which has a vast compendium on the old fello...

I like to thank our Eru for opening this Languages of Arda Forum for me. I also like to thank all of you who have shown an Interest in Learning Sindarin. Origins of Galadriel

I know that this may simple to some of you, but I know very little about the origins of Galadriel. All I know is, the following.
She was the Lady of the Golden Wood who harboured the Fellowship during the War of the Ring. Wife of Lord Celeborne. She was of Noldor race and was the great...

The Power of Beorn ???
(Preview)
OK, so I was re-re-re...-reading the Hobbit today, and I noticed something I hadn't before. Something about Beorn.
Anyway, I'll explain this all to make sure everyone understands what I mean.
As Gandalf says to Bilbo there two theories about the origins of Beorn in ME:
"Some say that he is a b...

Question on the 3 Elven rings.
(Preview)
So, Sauron helped Celebrimbor with making the seven and the nine rings and put some of his power into them so he could control those who wore them. Does anyone know what source of "magic" Celebrimbor used to power the three for the elves? Elves have some limited powers but the three were powerful and th...

Why did Eru not help?
(Preview)
Ok, my question is this:
Why did Eru not intervene at any point in history when something bad was happening in the world, i.e. Melkor's rebellion or Sauron's attempted domination of Middle Earth?
Surely Eru would not want these things to happen and I'm pretty sure he would have the p...

Galadriel

I've seen it posted in other threads about Galadriel seeking pardon from the Valar before returning to Valinor.
I'm looking for something to substantiate that claim, as I understood that the Noldor were pardoned after the War of Wrath with the possible exception of Maglor. I thought that the No...

Perception and bias between Gandalf and Sauruman by the elves
(Preview)
so, not having read the full "history of Middle-Earth" books I made these observations of how the Elves percieved Gandalf/ Olórin vs. Saruman/Curumo'. The Valar chose Saruman as the leader of the order, how did they (especially Mandos) fail to have the forsight to see he would fall...

Here follws a quote from The Hobbit:

Was Legolas married?
(Preview)
As far as I remember, according to "Laws and Customs among the Eldar", elves were of age when they were 50 and usually got married soon after they were of age. Some of them got married much later (for instance, Luthien, Arwen...) and some didn't get married at all, but those were rather rare...

The Lord of the Rings books seem to indicate that Gollum could not have survived very long if the ring had been destroyed. However Gandalf takes a different view. He believes that Maybe Gollum could be revived after the ring had been destroyed:

Gandalf and healing
(Preview)
I've always wondered why couldn't Gandalf heal folks who'd been hit by the Black Breath of the Nazgul. In Gondor they had to wait for Aragorn to take care of everyone (him and Elrond's sons). Did Gandalf not have any sort of healing power?

The Wildmen and Easterlings

I'm fairly sure that the 'wildmen' were men, but I'm not so sure what these 'Easterlings' were. Do these peoples have a history, or did Tolkien just throw them in for additional flavor? From the movies, it appears that the Easterlings were a sovereign state with a controlled, uniformed army (as v...
