Eowyn and Ioreth
(Preview)
As I have said many times before, I believe the reason that Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series is so popular because no matter who you are, where your from or what manner of temperment you are, you can find at least one character to attach to or relate to. That being said, I myself, being as concieted as I a...

The Rainbow Cleft
(Preview)
Anyone with KW Fonstad's book note that there is no seeming gap through the mountains from the Sea into Hithlum and Dor-Lomin, and so no passage, if not over mountains at least, except through the Gate of the Noldor and the Rainbow Cleft? But compare to (Christopher) Tolkien's map and (it seems to...

Transmission And Authorship
(Preview)
I decided to make a thread concerning the imagined transmission and authorship of the texts, and post some findings in one place (and in a place I can more easily locate by name as time goes by). One problem here is Tolkien's changing mind. In the early 1950s JRRT still held to the idea that (ver...

betraying Gondolin
(Preview)
Sorry about the length! Maeglin is usually noted as betraying the location of Gondolin in that he seemingly gave the needed details to allow an assault to take place. If I recall correctly, in earlier versions of the Túrin saga, Húrin's release did not reveal the location of Gondolin in any measure,...

Feanor vs Galadriel

Religion and Middle Earth
(Preview)
I have a question. Why did the elves and men never practice religion? They did not perform any religious ceremonies as far as I can tell. Lucas used "the force" in Star Wars. Religion was universal in the epic tales. Why did Tolkien not have a similar theme in his works?
