The recent theread opened by Galadriel gave me the idea to start this thread.
Now, the 2006 was an important year for the TF, the year it was started on. During this time I have personally had some good and also some not so good times.
So my question to you all is:
What did you like on the TF in 2006 ? What didn't you like in 2006 ? What were you favourite threads/topics/polls/RPGs/mini-games/etc. in 2006 ? What were not so good threads/topics/etc in 2006 ? And any other thing that comes to mind regarding the forums in 2006.
Please, as far as not so good things are concerned it would be nice if you could try to find a solution to not make the same mistakes in 2007. We are waiting for your feedback, so please do post in this thread.
I guess it would be fair to start first since I asked all to join in and write. My favourite thread this year probably was the Celebrity Deathmatch thread, I definitely enjoyed some of the fights there. The other games including riddles, trivia were very nice as well. I also like the Pieces of Eight RPG and the Rohirric Tavern RPG, but unfortunately they are were over before completion...I hope the new Siege of Erebor RPG will not suffer the same fate The lore discussions with mouth of sauron, Glorfindel1235, Rumil, Celethil, Galin, Beren, Bauglir, Tyrhael, Anduril, Gothmog and many others were also very good and many of the members proved to have vast knowledge as far as Tolkien's works are concerned.
But of course you can't have good without bad, so even though I don't enjoy saying this it is necessary. I haven't liked the lack of activity of many of the members that had a negative impact on the Forums. I haven't liked some arguments in some lore threads, some of which I admit I have also been part of. The same goes for respecting the rules and keeping a friendly and cordial atmosphere on the forums.
However, a new year brings new hope, and I really hope that 2007 will be a great year for the Forums. If we work together, post, stay active we can make sure the Forums will have a bright future and will continue growing. It is up to us to stay faithfull to The One and help him keep this forum alive. I hope you will really take this into consideration and make the right choices in 2007.
I noticed the thread TM and honestly, after I read it, I couldn't stop by and drop a few lines. Mostly of what you said I can't be more in agreement with and also wise and true.
In my opinion however, for such a small land of Tolkien fanatics, there have been plenty of events, interesting issues revealed in even more interesting threads. Though, regretable, some dry up shortly after being opened due to lack of interes in keeping this threads alive.
The best topics in my opinion were those opened by Elendil the Tall,Tyrhael and Anduril and still there are plenty of other members worthy of being added to the list, among them The Might (the heart of TF that kept pumping life into the whole place), Glorfindel (our most innocent and loyal fellow), Mouth of Sauron (the source of most interesting threads) and some others I fail with shame to remember.
The games were very entertaining, all of them, the polls were a bit dry in my humble opinion and the RPGs unfortunately haven't got much of my atention until now because there were other things that kept me busy. Maybe 2007 will bring a change in this matter.
What I enjoyed the most on TF 2006 was the accelerate ascension of some members as if a sort of competition has been declaired which in certain moments of the year turned out to be a in fact a hidden war. Not to be proud of but without doubt an unended source of amuzament and fun. Here can be also remembered some threads: Why do so many have trouble with the film and the book? (Anduril) ,thread that to some may be dry but to me a unforgetable moments of nice reading and so on.
What I didn't like about TF 2006 and probably won't like about TF 2007 is the large amount of forums. But that's just my thought, some may not agree. Another negative thing to be pointed is as TM has already said the large number of members who sign in for a membership and never post. I'm just wondering what use to register if you don't have any intention of honoring your membership???!!!
All in all, comparing the good things that happened to be on TF with the bad things, I earned more than I even expected. I made some friends, I discovered new things about Tolkien and his books and I took part (directly or just as an observer) to some very interesting debates. Hoping the place will get even better, more fellows will join and new topics will be opened. And as you have probably already observed sometimes I fail to make my point clear due to my limited rage of vocabulary for which I apologize. To the people I failed, forgivness; to the friends I have honored, I am thankfull. Looking forward to reading further answers.
Me a loyal fellow? It appears you are clouded in a decpetion... My 30.000 words dictionary does not include 'decpetion' . Will you be kind to find a similar word that,in your opinion, would fit such a small dictionary.
Not sure what you mean about 'dry polls'. Could you explain?
I fail to see what purpose might the polls have.
Yes, you a loyal fellow! Isn't Glorfindel who keeps returning to post and contribute with his thoughts to the forums? Wasn't you the innocent guy that remained neutral whener a conflict occured? Haven't you been kind to everyone, diplomatic and stylish when posting? I guess it's time to open the eyes wide and look at yourself. You're precious
I think that was just a joke and a type mistake made by Glorfindel anyway, let us not go too far off-topic I am eager to hear many other opinions on this
Wish I would have known about the Tolkien Forum in 2006. From what I read here, yoyu guys had a great year. Maybe next year this time, I can write a nice review for 2007
