Celebrity DEATHMATCH

Based on the response to the Elvish Battle Royale thread this just seemed inevitable.

THE RULES:
1. Someone suggests a battle with up to 6 participants.
2. Next person describes the battle in detail. ( please do not just post "Turin would win that")
3. Give opinions
4. After 4 or more opinions the floor is open to a new DEATHMATCH.
5. Once a new DEATHMATCH has begun no more comments about the previous one please.

Hmmmmm.

This one is actually difficult...

Starting with loyalties, Galadriel and Arwen square off against Eowyn and Rosie.

Eowyn offends Arwen with a suggestion of infidelity by Aragorn and blades are drawn. Galadriel defends her grandaughter and no one takes much notice of Rosie. Eowyn manages a minor cut to Galadriel's side before Arwen cuts her down. As Arwen turns to smile at her grandmother Rosie smacks her in the face with her frying pan and dazes her. Arwen spins and cuts Galadriel in the thigh. Reflexively Galadriel lunges and stabs Arwen in the heart, then her eyes open wide in horror and she drops to her knees to weep. Rosie moves to strike her on the back of the head with the frying pan. Galadriel's eyes burn with anger as she turns and lops the hobbit's head off.

Winner: Galadriel.

TM just had to put Rosie in this. I know how he loves those frying pans.

I think that one on one, Eowyn could beat the other three. But, (I'm under the inpression that this is like the royal rumble) Galadriel and Arwen would team up on the other two.

If it came down to Arwen and Galadriel, who do you think would have won?

I think Arwen
Galadriel wanted to get pardon from the Valar, and one of the things that proves that is when she rjected the Ring. So by killing her granddaughter she wouldnÄt do a good job.
Arwen on the other hand had less to lose - she already wanted a mortal life so she would perhaps do it.

Gothmog - Im not sure why you would think that Eowyn would stand a chance against Galadriel.

In other threads it has been stated that Galadriel was the greatest of the Eldar that remained in Middle-Earth in the Third Age. She was present at the first Kinslaying and she fought in the great battles in the First Age.

As for pardon from the Valar, I thought that the Noldor were pardoned after the War of Wrath, but some chose to remain in Middle-Earth. I could be wrong, but I thought Galadriel remained by choice.

I believe she still wanted to have her own realm in ME, however, I might be wrong, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Cool thread : )
Since Eowyn killed the Witch King, that's got to count for something. I heard it was thought inappropriate for elven women to bear swords, so Arwen at least would get bumped off, though maybe her Grandmother would save her. Rosie would get overlooked at first, so perhaps she could sneak up on one and kill them, a la Merry stabbing the Witch King. With that in mind, I think Eowyn would be inclined to band together with Rosie against Arwen and Galadriel at first, and Arwen and Rosie would get picked off first, leaving Galadriel and Eowyn. Not sure how it would finish, though Galadriel would probably be the strongest.

Next DEATHMATCH...

Beorn, Shelob, and Bard of Dale

Well, I was about to ask if I could post a new deathmatch. Oh well you beat me to it. This one is most interesting though.

I think that obviosly Bard and Beorn would teem up against Shelob. I'd say that unless Bard got a lucky shot in he would be killed pretty quikly, leaving Beorn and Shelob. This would be a very interesting match up. I can't think of hand of anything I've read to support that Beorn would beat Shelob, or visa versa. The result in this match would come down to wether Beorn was more powerful than an ordinary bear. If so than he would probably win. If not, then Shelob would win. So this one could go either way. Also I think that Bard would probably have hit Shelob at least once, so if this was a critical hit than Shelob would have a harder time.

If anyone has a quote that says Beorns strength compared to other bears, please post it. Its been a while since I've read the Hobbit.

G-G/G.

I also agree that Bard would probably shoot at Shelob, but miss or inflict little damage and would then be poisioned by her.
considering Beorn's performance in the battle of the Five Armies and his sharp claws, and Shelob's very vulnerable belly, I would say Beorn would win.
Afterwards Bard would wake up after a few hours and Beorn and Bard would go have some cookies at Beorn's house.

I am actually inclined to agree with both of you on this one. Beorn and Bard team-up against Shelob and she poisons one of them and is killed by the other. If no one else has posted an opinion by tomorrow, feel free to load up your DEATHMATCH, Gothmog.

Sorry for the timing.

Glaurung, Gothmog(), and Ungoliant.

Glaurung would definitely team up with Gothmog, since they served the same master.
There would be a fight, and fighting together the 2 would defeat Ungoliant.
I say this especially because of the quote in the Sil showing that once she hid in the south Ungoliant eventually died, even though she fed on light, showing that she wasn't as strong anymore as for example after she drank the sap of the two trees.
Anyway, I doubt an alliance between the 2 would last afterwards, since even though they served Melkor, they were not necessarily friends, perhaps both wishing to be more important for their master.
Anyway, considering that both have suffered a similar amount of damage from fighting Ungoliant, I would personally say Gothmog wins, for the simple fact that in the Sil it is mentioned that balrogs are stronger then dragons.
So clearly Gothmog, greatest of Balrogs would win the fight in the end.

This is a tough one. Glaurung, Gothmog, and Ungoliant are all so completely evil. Glaurung appears to be the smartest of the three, so I personally think he would talk Gothmog into leading an attack on Ungoliant and while those two are locked in battle he would wait until one of them was wounded. In this case I think it would be Gothmog wounded severely by Ungoliant. Then Glaurung would jump in and attack Ungoliant and after she is defeated he would turn on the wounded Balrog and finish it.

Winner: Glaurung

You see, this is what I was looking for. A match that could have two completely diferent opinions to it.

If It started like Celethil said, I think the result will be what he stated. But if it starts like TM said, then it would probably end up like he stated.

The funny thing is I agree with TM's scenario as well, though I think Ungoliant is the more powerful of the three.

I also agree with TM's scenario. I don't see where anyone said that Ungoliant wasn't the most powerful of the three. In fact, everything that has been said has suggested that she WAS the most powerful.

she was powerful, still, if the fight takes place, let's say around the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, I'd say that Ungoliant had already lost much of the freat power she had gained after drinking the sap of the 2 trees.
if however the battle took place in that time (even though Glaurung wasn't yet created, lol) Ungoliant would have no problem finishing the two.

however, as we saw the balrogs managed to defeat Ungoliant in her most powerful stage ever.
so if we think that 7 (to take the maximum of the 3-7 estimated number) balrogs defeated her at her strongest, I'd say it is plausable that a great dragon and the most powerful balrog would defeat in a weaker stage, fighting together.

It just says Balrogs in the Silmarillion, and not all of us are in line with that '7' maximum.

It was a note in the margins of a greater text which was not consistent with the note.

we have discussed this already Celethil, and anyone can believe what they wish.
as the thread itself is mainly your own view, I will present the facts of the battle considering my own opinion on the subject of balrog numbers.

or perhaps I shouldn't have made the comparison in the first place...

I cannot see how Ungoliant could beat either becuase Glaurung would simply breath fire over her and she would be too slow to move in time, and a Balrog has a fire/shadow jacket on so she could not touch him.

No idea why it would be assumed that Ungoliant would be so easy for Glaurung or Gothmog. On to the next Deathmatch....

Here's one...

Faramir, Elladan, Glorfindel, Imrhahil, and Eomer. Let the battle begin.

hmm...this is a hard one because of more aspects
firstly, it's not easy to imagine what sides would be created
Elladan is an Elf and might support Glorfindel, still he was only a Peredhil and he had fought in war together with Eomer, Faramir and Imrahil
Imrahil would 100% back up Faramir as he was loyal to the king and to the steward as well, despite his Elvish blood.
Eomer would most likely also join this side, because they were friends and had fought together, and also because there would no be real reasons for him not to do so.
Glorfindel on the other side would be on the other side with or without Elladan...
Now...if Glorfindel and Elladan fight together, I believe they can easily win against the other 3.
If not, Glorfindel would still be a powerfull foe, given that he managed to hold off, and kill a balrog near Gondolin. Still 4 opponents at once is even for him too much, maybe he would get rid of 2 or 3 of them, but would surely not win alone.

LoL I agree with most of your reasoning. So who is your winner in the DeathMatch? There can be only one.

ok...
so if the elves make a team, eventually Glorfindel will win clearly
if Glorfindel must fight the other 3, I'd say he would first try to kill Elladan, angry he did not ally with him
out of the other 3 I would say Imrahil would win
Eomer was very skilled in cavalry tactics, but not in close combat
as for Faramir, as a ranger he was good in camouflage and archery, but again lacked Imrahil's skill in close combat

I think I already said
if Elladan and Glorfindel ally themselves, Glorfindel wins
if not, Imrahil does
for the reasons see my last post, in which I already answered your question

personally I would be much more interested to hear your points of view as well

I beleive that in oder to make these matches more fair the participants all need to be in combat 'one for all' (no teaming up and allaying). In which case in this particular case I second that Glorfindel would win.

Glorfindel - You are free to present your method and outcome for each battle. The very fact that there are multiple combatants implies that someone will get double teamed. If you wish to present your version as a series of one-on-one contests, that is up to you.

Giving a list of combatants and just naming the most powerful isnt nearly as fun as this.

TM - Here's my version...

Faramir and Elladan arrive at the field of combat to find Glorfindel egaged with Imrahil and Eomer. Imrahil is brought to his knees and stabbed through the heart, even as Eomer turns his steed and drives Glorfindel from the dying body. Faramir looses an arrow into Glorfindels shoulder and a horrified Elladan draws his blade. Eomer is able to press the attack on the wounded elf now. Faramir finds himself in heated swordplay with Elladan. Glorfindel strikes Eomer from the saddle and the two wrestle with knives in hand. Many cuts later Glorfindel stands and Eomer moves no more. Elladan has finally slain Faramir and then turns on his kinsman. The wounded and weary Glorfindel falls before Elladan, but not before leaving him with ghastly wounds he will not soon forget.

Winner: Elladan

hmmm...I did not take into account that Eomer might have his steed near him as well...or that Faramir has his bow and arrows
anyway, good idea, and I guess it is also plausable...
however, if Eomer had a spear while riding, the outcome of his encounter with Glorfindel, might have been different

I took the spear into account, I thought. I mean if Glorfindel can handle a Balrog, I think he can deal with a mounted opponent. Just my thoughts.

The whole goal of this is to have fun and try to create different scenarios. Enjoy.

I thought about something else, more like an explanation for the battle
This is my scenario:
Faramir takes the ring from Frodo and brings it to Minas Tirith
Glorfindel is sent by Elrond to solve this matter, since he knows that if the city would fall, so would the ring.
Imrahil also arrives to Minas Tirith with his troops.
Elladan is travelling with Aragorn and with the rangers.
Eomer is riding with the Muster of Rohan towards Minas Tirith.
Everything happens just like in the book, with the one exception that Faramir and his Men are not sent on a mission to recover Osgiliath, since Denethor was too interested in his new weapon to give such orders.
Frodo, Gollum and Sam are set free by Faramir, who wishes them good luck on their return journey. The 3 however also make their way towards Minas Tirith once the siege of the city ends.
The Siege of Minas Tirith takes place just like in the book, and Sauron's forces are defeated.
Gandalf finds out that Denethor has the ring, and that he intends to use it, and sends Glorfindel and Elladan to take it from the Steward. Denethor tries to attack them and is killed by Glorfindel, who then takes the ring in order to bring it to Gandalf.
Faramir, Eomer and Imrahil arive, and are convinced Glorfindel wants the Ring for himself. Elladan tries to tell them it is not true, but it is too late. The Ring uses its will to turn them against each other, and as in the scenario before Glorfindel is the last standing.
Gandalf realises what has happened and so he defeats Glorfindel, takes the Ring and gives it to Pippin.
Pippin and Merry now go towards Mount Doom, and on their way they meet Frodo, Sam and Gollum. They all pass through Shelob's lair, the only difference is that the Orcs don't sense their presence, since the WK, who had felt a strange presence on the stairs in the original story, is dead.
They also have a much easier travel, because they have more supplies then in the original story, most of them from Merry and Pippin.
The 5 pass near Cirith Ungol, and are able to escape unseen by the tower guards. They make their way directly towards Mount Doom, as Gorgoroth is again empty, and as there is no need to try to make an escape on the Morgai road.
They reach Sammath Naur just as the Battle at the Black Gate starts. Frodo once again refuses to throw the Ring in the fire, and Gollum tries to take the ring, but with some "help" from Merry and Pippin he falls with the ring to his doom.
Sauron is again defeated, and Gandalf comes to their rescue with the Eagles.

Hmm...I might consider starting to write fanfic...

TM - I liked everything in your scenario with one exception. I do not think that Gandalf would be able to stand against Glorfindel if he (Glorfindel) had the One Ring in his possession. Gandalf would have been forced to take off his ring of power before even beginning the fight. And we know that Glorfindel has the skill at arms to take on a powerful Maia.

it depends what state Glorfindel is in
considering he just had to fight 4 other very strong warriors, the outcome might be different...
