In an attemp to try and find the best course of action for member recruitment, we would be very grateful if you could just post to say how you found out about the site.
Some examples may be - Found in a search engine, Told about it, seen in a link directory etc.
I was here from the beginning. Proud to say I was probably in the top 5 first members to join. I have seen all the other members come and go since, Powers being apointed and Maiar and Special Ranks, and watching the members coming in and upgrading Rank. Come to think of it it really is like Arda here! Watching the sites history unfold like the Ainur watched the Vision.

I am a member of another forum and I saw the link of this site posted in one thread. The 'guest' who posted the link also left a few words: 'if you are a serious Tolkien fan than you should visit the fallowing link'. Many thanks to whoever that was.
I found this site when I was trying to look into more artwork from J.R.R. Tolkien after I got given a book when my uncle died that is called Pictures by J.R.R. Tolkien, and I found this site under the links of Wikipedia.
This was the third forum I investigated from the list of links at TolkienLibrary.com - I go there occasionally to see if my site shows up on the first page. The first forum was all games (contrary to it's description), the second was less than Mac friendly, and here I am. :)
I found a link to your site under the Encyclopedia of Arda links sections.
I had been looking for a Tolkien forum for quite some time. I joined several, but I didn't care for them. I won't name any names, but certain boards were ridiculously stuffy and intolerant. No one had a sense of humor at all. Others were filled with 90% members who had only watched the movies and not read the book - thus no serious discussions. All I was seeking was a happy medium.
I like this forum the best of any I've found so far because there's an interesting group and you can debate with people without getting banned. To be honest, it's still a little stuffier than I'd like. I don't mean this offensively at all, I'm just offering constructive criticism. I think that you would get many more people to join - and post more, if you provided a general forum where people can get to know each other. I would love to get to know some of the people on this forum better but it isn't really possible as there's no avenue to do so. I'm a member of several messageboards and I've made friends at all of them that I enjoy IMing or PMing. I think if TF had a better sense of community it would strengthen the board and encourage people to post.
I really like that TF is predominantly a place to have intelligent debates about Tolkien's work, but I know that I would post more if there was a way to have a *little* lighthearted discussion with other members. You may also consider that when all the topics are lore topics, usually a response requires a member to do some thinking and take some time to either look at the book or carefully craft a response. As a result, less posts. Though that isn't a bad reason at all, I think. It means all the posts are quality posts. I apologize for the long post but I felt it was better than making a separate thread to suggest thiis.

Maybe we should think of archiving some of the really old discussions, to make more room for new ones... After all, there is pretty much here after one year.
What are you talking about? Oh I get it now. If you are referring to what I posted above your post, I was talking about what Lord Tulkas said. I am new to this so I thought that when I posted "Funny " it would say that it was a reply to what Lord Tulkas said. Just scroll up and look at Lord Tulkas' post. Don't worry, I just confused myself a little bit too.
Didn't realized this topic existed until our friends Zekrom and rkaeppe33 brought it up on the thread list! Way to stir things up you two and forgive me for not welcoming you both sooner. Welcome and well met!
As for me i was trying to find a home in Tolkien-based forums and found nothing but disappointment. Many sites were over-run by clicks of people who traded recipes and/or only spoke of their personal lives. When someone new would appear they would do a quick round of greetings then ignore any questions one might have. It was disheartening to say the least.
Then, luckily, I saw a link on the last disappointing forum for this one. I was hooked immediately! The members are courteous and knowledgeable, and for the most part stay on topic about our one common link: Professor Tolkien's works! I've been a member since August of last year, I believe, and there's no looking back!
Cheers to the members and to the staff of this very cherished site!
I too had not seen this topic, so thanks to Zekrom and rkaeppe33 as well.
If I remember correctly I was searching specifically for maps of ME on google and this came up on the first page somewhere, and it had the best maps out of all the other sites that popped up. Gracias.
Interestingly enough, I came upon this site in the same manner as Laurelin. I was searching for maps of Arda in an attempt to discover where Beleriand and its surrounding lands were in relation to Middle Earth in the third age. I stumbled upon this site with its excellent maps, further exploration led me to this forum.
I was looking for a good Tolkien social site to meet like minded people and this was among the threads that came up. I gave it a try and have been here ever since.
