Hi everybody I'm Earwen!


I'm 21 and have just finished 3 years of university! (Found out I graduate today!) I live in England, and have been obsessed with Tolkien every since I can remember. My earliest memory is of my dad singing the "Smash the Plates" song from the Hobbit to me. My family (except my mum) love The Lord of the Rings, but no-one is quite as obsessed as me.


I love the Silmarillion, and my favourite part is Of Beren and Luthien. I think I am going to like it here, especially since all my friends think I am nuts for loving Tolkien this much!

Thanks for that mouth of sauron. Am sure I am going to enjoy it here.


I agree, beginners do tend to find it confusing. Some of my friends enjoyed the films and went on from there. They all got confused about the history and the differences from the films.


Anyway, thank you for the greeting. Hopefully see you on some of the boards!

Am I seeing double or are there two Earwen's on the site now? I hope I don't get confused (and I am easily confused).

Welcome to TF Earwen. Yeah there are two Earwen's which might get a bit confusing to some like Bauglir().

nah...not a problem...
I can get used to it...
still Earwen seems quite a Mannish name as well
makes me think of Earnur or Earnil...but it still hast that Finwe or Olwe in it...
a nice combination...I wonder if it has a meaning

I'm not entirely sure if it has a meaning, or if it's just a combination like you mentioned. I found it on one of those random online LOTR name generators. It was what came out when I put my name in and I rather liked it.


But now you mention the idea of it possible having Elivish and Mannish connections makes me want to find out more, I wonder where I could do that...

Earwen means sea-maiden
and interestingly it isn't pronounced earwen, but ayarwen...

the EoA [Encyclopedia of Arda]
there you can find all the names in LOTR, The Sil, UT and the Hobbit with meaning, pronunciation and a short summary about the region or river or person or etc with that name

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, few family issues this end.


However, I am now gainfully employed, well as of 1st Sept!

Yes The Might I am empolyed, it is very boring and depressing! I am not enjoying it but I am liking the being paid side of things!

I think you may want to learn Sindarin. Noldorin Quenya was banned from Middle-Earth by Thingol after he found out about the Kinslaying. I think the Council of Elrond has a good course in Sindarin.

Only us old Noldor are proud and stubborn enough to ignore the commands of the Sindarin King.

PS Being paid is a good thing.
