Member recruitments

Why don't we all try to pitch in to get some members? I am sure the Valar and Maiar have there work cut out so a little help from us could be just what the site needs.

Here are some idears we could all do:

http://tolkienforums.com/ as our profile homepage in other sites,
PMing or Emailing other site members,
Posting this site on other forums where you can.

Sounds good to me mouthofsauron111.

However what you will find is that people are too lazy. They would only try and contribute towards the Site if there was something in it for them - what they don't realise is that the whole site exists for them on a non-profit set-up. The amount of hours The One must have put into building the site, and then charge nothing beats me where his sense is!

I would dearly donate money through paypal, but I don't have a credit card and my dad wouldn't let me use his.

Yeah, If this site eventually gets a 'Supporting member' facility I will gladly pay £3-5 a month for all the hard work that has gone into this place! Still I doubt something like this will get put up unless we get more members...

I will try to get interest from other sites. Even though I am very new to this site, I would also be willing to become a supporting member. It is a very worthy cause.

Bauglir - If you have potential to recruit a fair few members I would Private message The One. He will often do deals like 'sign over x amount of members and upgrade rank/become a special rank/become a Maiar/moderator' etc!

Also I would like to elaborate on what Bauglir said. It not even as if its just loads of time that has been used building this site, I expect it costs a bit to considering there are no adverts on it.

Yeah your right Glorfindel1235, thats why I suggested all the things that could be done to recruit more members.

mouthofsauron111 - I like your idea on this thread about recruiting more members from other sites.

Glorfindel1235 - That is a hypothesis from your side. The One will not bribe anyone to recruit more members from other sites. Those speacial ranks/maiar/Moderator places do come with the time and effort/quality posts you give/make to tolkienforums.

I think that it would be a bad idea to give bribes to people who get new members anyway, because then it would be too easy to gain higher ranks and even people who weren't true Tolkien fans or weren't very active on the site could easily make their way to the top. Points and respect should be gained through dedication to the site and regular activity. Recruiting or at least trying to recruite more members should not be done for personnal gain, but for the whole site to gain from it.

I'm back! Anyhow, I'd be willing to help recruit members any way I can. I've already made this my homepage on other sites and all that, as well as mentioning it to some friends (though I don't think they were too interested). Is there anything else we can think of to do?

Remember to keep voting on the Top 100 site. It brings lots of people to the site, especially if we are at the top.

You could try searching for other Tolkien sites that are small and not very good and see if you can get members there to come here. I did that on a few sites and a couple of people joined because of it.

Right, I'll definitely vote! And that's actually a really good idea. I bet we could find a ton of people that way now that the site has grown so much. I'll see what I can do...

I don't like pestering my friends to join websites...I ask them once, if they say no, I don't ask again.  I e-mailed everyone I knew when I joined.

Yep, and it worked! I probably wouldn't have joined if you hadn't told me about this. And no, I don't like to bother people about joining things. If you actually get them to join then the chances of them staying active aren't too good (not that I can really talk right now)...

well, I did get 2 people or so to join, but it seems they aren't active
probably again to do with them beeing more active on other tolkien sites.
anyway, I think getting 1 good member on the site is better then getting 3 member that are not so active

Hopefully Atanvarne will stay active now though. But it is a pity about 20 of our users don't do a thing. I really want Oin, Nyx, Almaric and Andu to be active again.

Don't worry, I plan to stay active on the site! I know I disappear from time to time, but I shouldn't have to do that for quite a while now. And I agree with The Might, it would be really great if we could get a few really good, active members on the site...

Aye, its great when someone like Bauglir jopins the site who are really active, but we really need more people like that.

Has anyone else noticed that virtually all of our beginner users don't stay active?

I don't understand why they do that. The registration proccess is by no means quick, so if you go through with it you have to want something out of it you would think.

I don't know either
I think you should ask these members if you want to find an answer...
still, it is a pity that they didn't stay

I have contacting one or two, and no doubt they have received notes from the Powers, but they simply don't reply.

Nyx is a strange one however. He comes on the site every few days and has been a member for a long time, yet he has not even done a single post!

maybe he isn't so interested
maybe if he finds a topic that is interesting for him maybe he will post...I dunno
still...it is indeed a strange thing

Well if he wasn't interested I ponder why he still comes on here. I don't know why people don't participate, after all its free and all that and they only register if the lik the site and its content.

Well, as you've probably noticed, most of the members we recruit come from the Plaza or other larger websites, where they might already be involved heavily, therefore don't feel the need to join other forums, or are already too pushed for time to join and stay comitted. We need fresh meat!
If you know smaller lotr lore sites and forums that are maybe struggling and planning on closing, ask if they want to join with us and find new homes here.
Nyx is a girl, by the way : )

oops...my bad
indeed, recruiting members from smaller sites is a good idea, but I personally don't quite know others...
still, I think staying on top on the lotr sites list is a good idea

I chat to her sometimes. Are you hinting I should suggest to her that she comes and posts?

I guess he does, but in the end I doubt it would make much difference
if Nyx comes from time to time to the site it is clear she hasn't forgotten about it or something
if she doesn't post it is her choice...

Thats a good suggestion, Lady Yavanna, it might persuade her to post!

Yes, it probably would : P, but TM just gave a rather good point, maybe she's choosing not to post for whatever reason. Still, I shall suggest it subtley (sp...) at some point.

You can tell her that I reckon she would be a great asset to us if she was active enough.

asset?
sounds like...some property thing...
I don't really think good members are "assets"...

TM - asset simply means 'Benifit' - she will 'benifit' Tolkien Forums. It need not have anything to do with objects or property.

I know how your thinking of it though. You thinking that Mos classed her as a sort of useful chesspiece...

Hey guys, before I came here I was also, and still am involved with another forum know as "The Dark Sith Lords". It is a starwars fan site much like what is set up here. If I gain permission from an Admin here, I would like to propose the idea of an alliance. Many people on TDSL, are LOTR fans as well as SW fans, and I could get a couple new members. TDSL has already made forum alliances with other fan sites, and that is how we gained a lot of our members.
Here is the URL if anyone is interested. http://thedarksithlords.myfreeforum.org
My name on the site is Inquisitor Angmar.  You can PM me there if you have any questions or need help.

I would give The One a Private message Angmar and tell him. Maybe you can do a link exchange.

Interesting idea...
I personally like Star Wars, also very much enjoy playing Battlefron I and II, but when it comes to Star Wars lore I don't know too much more then the story from the movies
