Gollum's song at dead marshes

In the film the two towers, i noticed that Gollum sang a song in the Dead Marshes, just before one of the Nazgul fly over them upon a fell beast. It sounded like a smaller version of this.

"Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts his hand
over dead sea and withered land."

But, this is from The fellowship of the ring: fog on barrow-downs,p.152. Why did peter jackson do this if it was a song chanted by barrow-wights and not by Gollum? anyone elde noticed this and any other things similar?

There is also another story similar to this...

In the extended version fo the film on DvD there is an extra seen of merry and pippin drinking ent draught (i think its called that) and growing taller, but they then get caught in a root of a tree and it starts to bury them under its roots (sounds similar to old man willlow at the old forest does it not?)

Then tree beard comes and chants the same song that Tom Bombadil sings to stop the willow tree. something like "dig deep, drink water, go to sleep, etc"

could it show that, gollum was once a hobbit himself - to get to the mountains from the shire he would have to cross through the barrow-downs? Maybe Peter wanted to reinforce the fact that once upon a time gollum would have made the same trek across the lands.

That is an interesting point that i didn't think of... but what of treebeard and tom Bombadils little relation.... whats your opinion of that. it just seems to me that peter ran out of ideas and therefore put stuff in to make it longer...

The extended DvD is well worth it, not so much with the fellowship of the ring as it is not much extras in it. Although, the "Two Towers" and "The Return of the King" are well worth it. the "return of the king" has extras of the Mouth of Sauron which i think is pretty neat. I wish it contained seens of the Scouring of the shire.

let us not let the topic drift to that though, lets stick with these little quirks that peter Jackson has done.

yes, i to disliked seeing him fall fromt he pinnicle of Orthannc also, but there are some things worth it. I liked the bits where they discussed with Sarauman, but not him falling. I liked seeing the mouth of Sauron, but him being decapicated by Aragorn. etc.

the truth is this happens always, we only realised this about lotr because we all read it (I hope) and we all know what mistakes were made.
But for example, many, many other stories were changed by the directors in hollywood, just to make the movies more interesting and get more box office sales.
For example movies made after Jules Verne stories that were completely changed and made into a totally different thing.
It is lotr that bothers us because we are particularilly interested in it, but we have to see it is not only a single case, but a general thing.

This happened because, I believe, PJ wanted the songs in the movies somewhere and so spliced them into random scenes.

I have the extended versions.

I think it was to show how just as Tom Bombadil had certain... powers over the forest, that Tree beard also has his high rankings over Fangorn.

Just a thought...
