Hello everyone! I am somewhat a newer fan of Tolkien and would like to introduce myself. I am currently reading the Silmarillion and am going to read the Children of Húrin. I actually have not read the Hobbit or LOTR but have watched all the LOTR movies (As they are very accurate and follow the book) Also could everyone explain the system of ranks?
Thanks for reading

This is a place where you can relax, have fun, and discuss just about anything related to Tolkien. We have a massive number of different threads, Tolkien trivia, and other topics where your input and opinions will be welcome. Every level of familiarity with Tolkien is accepted ... so please don't be shy ... just jump right in. I am only a member here, but if I can help in anyway, please don't hesitate to ask.
The Silmarillion is a great place to enjoy the imagination and story telling skill of Tolkien. I suggest you consider reading The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit soon ... because I think you will find so much more has been added or left completely out of movies. While I appreciate your love for the movies (I like them too!) the statement "As they are very accurate and follow the book" is not true at all.
As to the ranking system it is simple ... Go to site navigation and choose Ranking Kingdoms. There you will find an explanation of how it all works. Then you choose a kingdom and the number of your posts begins raising your ranks. And you will find other opportunities to raise your rank as you explore more of the site.
This site is meant to be one of encouragement and fun, It is a place to be creative and entertaining. You can learn much about Tolkien from the various threads and from our Tolkien Forum's members.
Again, Welcome! Bear an Elf-Friend

Welcome and well met! I echo Bear's statement about the site being a very great place and has many different subjects on hand for all levels (new or old Tolkien fans) to enjoy and participate.
I had started by reading the Hobbit a while ago and then got into the Lord of the Rings shortly thereafter but it wasn't until the movies came out that I became seriously enthused by Tolkien's works. Peter Jackson did a tremendous thing by bringing the fictional world of Middle Earth to life, and I think it was long overdue.
I would be excited to hear your progress as you read the Hobbit and LOTR and discover just how much the movie left out or scrambled around just for the sake of time constraints....it would be a great journey and you will be enlightened.
With that said, I too am only a member here and also offer you my help with any inquiries you might have. Although Bear is one of the stoutest guides here I will do what I can if called upon.
Have a great time here and welcome once again....and well met, Lord Melkor...
