Ouch Estel! Either way that scene was way awesome. Elijah Wood and Sean Astin really nailed it, I almost lost it when Sam said he couldn't carry it (the Ring) but he could carry Frodo. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. My favorite speech has to be from Return of the King, when Denethor is speaking to Gandalf. John Noble was the man as Denethor. "You think you are wise Mithrandir, yet for all your subtleties you have not wisdom. Do you think that the eyes of the White Tower are blind? I have seen more than you know. With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor and with your right you would seek to supplant me. I know who rides with Theoden of Rohan. Oh yes! Word has reached my ears of this, Aragorn son of Arathorn and I will tell you now: I will not bow to this Ranger from the North; last of a ragged house long bereft of lordship." "The authority is not given to you to deny the Return of the King, Steward!" said Gandalf Then standing from his seat the Lord Denethor said,"The rule of Gondor is mine and no others'!" I thought this scene was awesome. The words chosen here were just perfect. The left hand and shield comment was a great analogy when spoken of Denethor's distrust or dislike of Gandalf. Tolkien was the best at that. His sentences always ran so smoothly. There were plenty of times I found myself re-reading them just to appreciate the poetic posturing. A perfect example of romanticism. The battle of the their wills played out nicely in this scene.
I can honestly say I've never heard someone say that the LotR's were not well writen. That's insanity! I've heard people say they didn't like the books, which is acceptible, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Also one of my favorite speeches was Gandalf explaining what death was like to Pip in the Return of the King. Really made me feel the good that sustained even in death :)

FirstBorn: People I know that have read the books say that they arent well written and sort of childish :S Jaidoprism: That speech kind of makes me hate the king. Haun: I also like that speech because although Gandalf is confirming that they may die but is also comforting him, which I think is nice :)
