Is anyone playing this game? I'm considering buying it and playing it. Right now they're offering two free months of game time and I think I'd enjoy getting to wander around Middle-earth in video game format.
I realize this isn't going to interest everyone here, but I was a video game nerd long before I was a Lord of the Rings nerd. Why not combine them? I've always wanted to try an MMORPG but didn't get around to it.
If anyone plays or wants to play with me, let me know and we can start new characters at the same time.
I used to play a MUD (Multi User Online Dungeon) that was based on ME in the third age. If you're not familliar with a MUD, its a text based format, (it gives you a description of your surroundings, and you can enter any of a number of commands to interact with the setting, such as walk E to move one map to the east). It was actually really cool, but I don't know if its around anymore. You could wander around adventuring, fighting, and interacting with other players all in realtime, and as you gained rank you could carry more powerful relics and weapons, and journey farther, eventually questing with the One Ring.

In my opinion its brilliant. Even the loremasters here would quite like it. They have really done there research. I think after some of the defects the fanatics found on the films this game company wanted to get there facts right. The game is completely book based, not film based. If any fanatics are avoiding buying it becuase they think it will be another inaccuracy then they are missing out big time.
What it basically is at the moment is a complete world of Eriador (they are building new lands like Gondor and Mordor as the game evolves). The lands currently playable are:
Ered Luin, The Shire, Evendim, North Downs, Bree Land, Trollshalls, Rivendell, Misty mountains, Ettenmoors and Angmar. All these lands have there own villains (which get harder the further you stray from the civilised lands), quests, and terrain. They are all big lands and its impossible to completely explore each one within a few hours.
What it is is a collective middle-earth with everyone (computer players and real players) running around in different lands on there own errands and quests, upgrading rank to get better armour and weapons and abilities etc, whilst all the time following the main story line. You can join fellowships or kinships to complete very hard quests or you can sit back and have a quite beer in Archet or Combe, or try some crafting of your chosen proffesion in Bree.
This is just an outline of the game you have to buy it if your into middle-earth.
I read about it and it sounded great but now that I've heard from someone who's actually playing it (and knows a lot about Middle Earth), I'm convinced. I'll buy it sometime soon.
£8 a month. Its sounds aexpensive but when you play it (and belive me I have played it up until 3 o'clock in the morning its so addictive) you'll say you got your eight pounds worth after a couple of days. There are other pakages to. I think its £20 for 3 months and so on.
hi is anyone else playing this game? i have been playing it for a couple of years and have found a number of loyal tolkien fans there, though also a number of people who just love gaming.
Unfortunately since the release of 'Mines of Moria' the game seems to have taken a slight turn for the worse, lore wise and end-game. Maybe that'll pick up over the next year or so.
