I also was surprised when I found out, but who cares. He was a great Gandalf.

Interesting information ArwenLegolas...
THIS article I believe...
Though you can also provide a link in the future, rather then copy/pasting such a long text, it is hard to read it in this format in the thread.

Anyway, I don't think you should accuse dwarf guy of anything.
As he says, it came as a surprise, so all he is doing is simply stating this, and as he also says, no offence is intended.
Indeed a person's sexual orientation is a fact more think about then one's health problems or other such matters, but this also has to do with the whole society.
And as the research shows, people don't and wouldn't care how it is determined, whether genetically or by personal choice...they care about it being something...abnormal.

Now it would be easy to say it's something like Mother Nature's population control mechanism by making sure some people won't procreate. But I personally doubt it...one of the basic instincts in all creatures is the fight for the survival of the species. So...it is something strange.

The fact is people have always been interested in strange or shocking or out of the ordinary things about stars.
If someone, especially a star, has a different sexual orientation, or goes to jail (Paris Hilton), or shaves her head (Britney), [many examples could follow], everyone is talking about it, because that's the way our society is.

It's not as though he was in the closet. My friend Pego in our Tolkien Society Group told me tonight that it is common and that he never tried to hide it.
Please except my apologies dwarf guy for thinking you said something you didn't.
And If I knew HOW to do that The Might, I wold have. I deleted the offendingly lengthy post so it will not slow down the thread

I was extremely surprised to learn this as well.

It made no difference to me though, in my opinion Ian McKellan as Gandalf was the most perfectly cast role in the film. He was absolutely amazing.
