Alassëa tyë-omentien, Im Erestor one of Arwen's buddies from The One board. I have been a Tolkien fan for over 40 years. In fact my birthday is the same as JRR Tolkien Jan 3rd. I speak both Quenya and Sindarin fluently and have written some of my own fiction and other actual scholarly papers on Tolkien masterpiece.
I took Erestor who had two whole lines in the Trilogy and created the character. With a complete past, with both darkness and light. If I may say so a rather quirky sense of humor.
Welcome, it's nice to see you here! I hope you'll find the place to your liking. I'm always impressed by people able to speak Quenya and/or Sindarin fluently, especially since I can think how difficult it is to learn a new language. At the time there's an RPG that's going to end soon, and then the last part is going to come. However, if you have ideas for RPGs of your own, please don't hesitate to start some. I'm always ready for some nice role-playing.
Stop fighting over Erestor; isn't it obvious?! He's sooo hobbitish..
*g* Well just letting you know Erestor that TF and the elf kin, specially moi, aka Rumil, welcomes you. Take your time, explore the place and when it will come the day to choose your kingdom, choose it wisely.
If you have questions about the forums, ask The Might. If you need help or guidance, ask Arwen. If you have a special request, ask Nidalf or The One. If you wanna get drunk, come to Rumil, he knows all good pubs in Middle Earth
Mai omentaina, Erestor i Arcastardil! Ni alassëa ná omentielvanen. Merin ista: mallo nómë utúlielyë istalya i parmalambëo (ar i sindalambëo)? Parma Tyelpelassiva ar Ardalambion yúyo sáronyar nar, mal umin ista i nómë ya yuhtanelyë. A, ar hanyalyen?
Melin Quenya han Sindarin, sië úvan tecë lambenen tana.
Very loose translation of my neo-Quenya: Well met, Erestor the Tolkien-fan! I'm pleased by our meeting. I would like to know: from what place has your knowledge of the book-tongue (and the language of the Sindar) come? Parma Tyelpelassiva and Ardalambion both have been a great help to me, but I don't know the place which you used. Oh, and do you understand me?
I like Quenya more than Sindarin, so I won't write in the latter language.
Wow that was impressive! A whole post written in Quenya. Well normally when I do that I post the translation. Just to help the newbies out. This board is going to be interesting to say the least. Now lets see what Rp to post in and who to play. Erestor was around in the first age in Gondolin and Doriath. I have also played Finrod Felagund. So are the posts strictly Tolkien Cannon or can we improvise and create some of the history?
Tyrhael - do you know how to do the same passage in Sindarin?
I'd rather not try there are some words we don't know the cognate of (like Arcastar "Tolkien"), and then there's the problem of what suffixes to use for the second person "you": *-g, *-ch, *-l, *-dh?
I understood most of it. Ardalambion is one of the sources that I use the others are Tol Eressea (another rp site), Mein Esse, Hiswaloke Sindarin dictionary, and several Quenya resources. Im just the opposite of you Tyrhael I write in Sindarin for the most part. Parma Tyelpelassiva is a site I need to check out.
I wonder where you got your Sindarin knowledge from - the only S course I know is on PT (Thorsten Renk's site) unless you speak German, which "Mein Esse" seems to indicate.
And another good language-related article I wonder if you've read: Carl Hostetter's Elvish as She is Spoke. I hope you have something to read PDF files with.

Oh, and by the way I think the plural of _annui_ is _annui_, cf. _i mbair annui_ in the King's Letter. But the rest looks great, though I'm iffy about the use of _gûr_.
Oh man Erestor, there is so much more to Sindarin then "piecing" things together. There is verb conjugation, lenition, mixed and nasal mutations. Mixed conjugational verbs, and irregular verbs. There is so much more then copying from just Hisweloke. Dan, an, nin, are all words that change the word it applies to. Maybe we could start a Sindarin Course here for Serious students.

Well, it seems that Erestor (he? she?) knows more than simply "piecing together", as non-English word order and use of lenition show. Though I wonder what his/her native language is - and if he/she uses any other resource than Hiswelóke to 'piece things together' - he/she had to get the grammar from somewhere!
Though Hiswelóke's online wordlist is very useful, even though I like the context of chronology to go with it.
God, I have to stop saying "he/she" ... Are you male or female, Erestor?
Actually I'm a he and as Arwen said my primary language is English. I do however speak several other languages including Gaelic and Welsh. It fairly easy for me to figure out Elven since Tolkien based Elven on both of them.
When I said piece together I use Hisweloke word list for the base words and then plug the rest of the adverbs etc in. I do know quite a bit but like everything else I'm still learning and I do make mistakes from time to time.
Well a little about me as Arwen said I live in Oklahoma City, Ok. USA, I'm 49. Tolkien and I share a birthday mine is also January 3rd. I'm ex US military, USAF to be exact. I'm married for now and have two grown 23 year old daugthers from my first marriage who will be graduating from the US Air Force Academy in later this month.
Wow Ere, I didn't know you had daughters in Annapolis. Awesome! Are you gonna go for their Graduation Ceremony? By the way, The One asked me to make a list for a venture we are wanting to start. Anyone who is SERIOUSLY interested in a Sindarin Language Course on this site, please send me a PM. I have already one person on the list. Send me a PM indicating you wish to be included on that list. Discretion to start is Eru's. If we get enough people, we would have a Sindarin Course. And maybe a Quenya course later. But I am not that good in Quenya and would have to learn from somebody who is more proficient in it.

Actually the Air Force Academy is in Colorado Springs, Co. Your thinking of the Naval Academy. Yes I'm planning on going, all I have to do is to figure out how to get my old fat butt into my dress blues.;)
I'm Erestor on both the One and Tol Eressea. I'm also on one or two other non Tolkien Rpg sites.
