Despite owning copies of The Silmarillion, The book of lost tales (1 & 2), etc for over 10 years I found that I just wasn't able to 'get into them' or enjoy them. However, after finding this forum my interest has been aroused again leading me to start reading them. I just started reading The Book of Lost Tales 1. I'm finding it highly enjoyable with extermely beautiful passages that really move the heart (the parts actually written by J.R.R. Tolkien at least). I'm also finding the editorial sections interesting and illuminating. Has anybody else had a similar relationship with these 'difficult' books? Maybe I've mellowed and become more sentimental as I've aged!!
Personally I most enjoy HOME 12, but the others aren't bad either, even though I can't say I read all the parts of all the books Indeed there is a lot of interesting information in them.
I like the part about the Dagor Dagorath which can be found mostly in 'The Shaping of Middle-earth' besides the few references found in other HOME books.
