QUESTION 1: in the chapter: of the coming of the elves it says (close to the end of the chapter) that there were three hosts of the the Eldar: the Vanyar, led by Ingwe. the Noldor, led by Finwe. and the Teleri. about the Teleri, are they the sea-elves? the Falmari, led by Elwe and Olwe?????

im reading the silmarillion now and i went back to this chapter and i didnt quite understand about the races, and i dont want to be confused all through the book. so whichever questions you do know the answer to, can you please answer. it doesnt matter if you dont know all 3...
Ok, I'll try to adress you questions one at a time
1. No, only the Teleri dwelling on the shores of Aman, at Alqualonde, are called Sea-elves, and yes, these are the Falmari, which were led ONLY by Olwe Elwe is King Elu Thingol, who became lost in Beleriand, and so is not part of the Falmari, but just one of the Teleri
2. Yes, Eldalie is the Quenya synonym for Eldat
3. The Calaquendi are the 'Elves of the Light'; a name given to the Vanyar, the Noldor and that part of the Teleri who travelled to Aman in the youth of the world and saw the light of the Two Trees of Valinor; Elu Thingol of Doriath is also counted among their number, because he had travelled with the first Elves westward and went to Aman before returning to Cuivienen to lead his people west as well. (he is the only such exception, since all Elves that went to Aman and returned to Middle-earth, went back to Aman again afterwards) The Moriquendi are the Dark Elves, those of the Elves who never saw the light of the Two Trees of Valinor, including the Avari, the Nandor and the Sindar. The Umanyar are all the Elves that do not dwell in Aman.
