Word Mania- first poetry thread

Would be a nice idea to post some poetry of mine in here with hope I'll get some rewies.

Good to remember:
- no chat
- no spam
- no ofensive language

Dare to care:
- post if you think my poetry is worthy of a few comments
- constructive criticism encouraged
- comments of any kind regarding my poetry are welcomed
- reviews, opinions, suggestions, advices, what is good, what is not good, what you liked, what you didn't like are most apreciated.

Thank you all for taking your time to read all these and here  it goes.

Thief

Take back what is yours
Give her what is mine
Offer what is ours
Send what's not theirs.

So you have what's ours
And they have what's hers
You don't have what's yours
Cause you took what's theirs.

Who has it? weirdface

This sounds more like a riddle but trust me it has no answer. I have writen this some good years ago when I was to a party and everyone before they went home asked each other whose jacket is this because everyone was too drunk to think straight. Puzzled about my own I simply said the words above and everyone freazed looking at me. And my reaction: biggrin

That is a thought provoking poem Rumil It's not bad at all. I heard stuff from "Published" Poets that was a bunch of nonsense. Maybe youy could tell us in another poem what the subject is that is being given and taken etc.

Just like your siggy has no clue as to what "day" it is talking about. Exactly what "Day" is it that You are talking about? Maybe you could make a poem using the answer of your siggy. :)

Sure it does but I never get to know it anyway, for which reason my riddle ended with a question mark.

*nudges* yeah Glorfindel why don't you put your head together and write a poem for us !!?? *g*

Here is a poem I just thought of:

No other Eldar has there been,
No other voice or fingers seen,
So skilled, tis said, in ancient Lore,
Save Maglor son of Feanor.
Age-old harper, minstrel doomed,
Who young when Laurelin yet bloomed,
To endless lamentation passed,
And into Belegaer he was cast.

That is pretty impressive Glor. I am not that good. Did you see my impromptu poem in the other thread?

It's in my poetry thread.

Mine was just the poem out of Unfinished Tales with a few adaptations. It really goes like this:

No other player has there been,
no other lips or fingers seen
so skilled, 'tis said in elven-lore,
save Maelor* son of Fëanor,
forgotten harper, singer doomed,
who young when Laurelin yet bloomed
to endless lamentation passed
and in the tombless sea was cast.

Oh, ok. And here I thought you had come up with that yourself. But at least you are honest enough to say so. That shows character.

Lighted Tree

It shines so bright
in the very dark of night.

Its brilliant light
Is an awesome sight.

It stands quite alone
Though it has nothing to atone.

More poems! Are you creating a book of poems, by any chance? Perhaps for publishing?

Thanks, MoS. Indeed I have been thinking about that. Might be worth a try.

Ode To Gandalf
By Peregrin Took, Esquire
Thain of the Smials,
The Shire

I dropped a pebble unawares
They chased us down three flights of stairs.

I saved the stone before it sank
Grima had hurled it from the Orthanc

Gandalf snatched it away from me
Surprised he grabbed it, I wanted to see

Fool of a Took, I took a look
chorus. Repeat 3x

And when I saw the evil eye
I must have given out a cry
Before I could even say goodby
He threw me on Shadowfax and off we'd fly....

To Gondor where on bended knee
I pledged my life to a dead white tree

At least I'm sure when he crossed the sea
He didn't leave because of me

I watched the ship till it was out of sight
And I bid farewell, to Gandalf the White

Chorus

Fool of a Took
Take a look of my foot
Longbottom leaf
And I'll dance on my feet
Too many foes
And I'll wiggle my toes

Hark and low didn't you hear?
Hold your breathand do not fear
Have one more drink, a gulp of your beer
Here comes my son, my young Faramir

That was cool. I wonder what the beat would be or the timing you would choose to play if you could for our pleasure. I take it that this was a song rendition of your words; Chorus, verse and so on?

Imagineer,

I liked it.  Much like how tales were told (with rhythm and rhyme) in the oral traditions of earlier times.

Please try another ... pretty please?

If a pretty please won't do it nothin will! I thought it was great Imagineer, I'm honestly not easily impressed but the rhythm of it was very good!
