I just thought of starting a new RPG thread. Topic: The siege of Erebor that took place at the same time as the siege of Minas Tirith. Sauron also sent troops in the north, to eliminate the Dwarves and Men there at the same time as he crushed Gondor. Dale fell, however Erebor was able to withstand the assault long enough. When news of Sauron's fall reached the Easterlings, they all fled and the siege of Erebor was ended. You can choose between being a Dwarf, Man of Dale or Esgaroth, Wood-elf of Northern Mirkwood, Woodman of Mirkwood or Beorning on one side, or between Orcs and Easterlings on the other. Anyway, I will only start the thread if at least 5 people, including myself, wish to join. Lastly, about the different positions. Two other GM position is available. As GM you must help the storyline coninue, by making posts to mark the passing of time, and also report spam or other unfitted posts in the thread.
To join, fill this form:
Name (your RPG character name): Kingdom: Position desired:
Well the story is pretty clear- the Easterlings attack Dale and Erebor. You can create your own character and choose between the different kingdoms I presented in my first post in this thread. Once you chose the side you want to be on you can start posting... For example:
I was hunting with some of the other Wood-elves from the king's guard when the alarm was raised. Our scouts had reported many warriors coming from the East and heading towards the Lonely Mountain. Thranuil knew at once that he had to act, so he quickly mustered our forces. I was among thos chosen to go and defend Dale...etc.
In other words you pretend you a character from whatever time/place is said in the particular RP. Then you post as though your that character in that time. In this case you could be an Easterling captain plotting about how to take Erebor.
Of course, and you can also interact with other players in the story
for example if I am a Dwarf warrior that is killing many orcs before the gate you, an elf archer let's say can come over and help me...just an example
the good part is that since there is no storyline that must be followed, each player can decide for himself what happens
however it is important that you use no godmoding, so please don't say what happens to other players, you don't have that right
it seems that several people are willing to join, so I will open the RPG thread please before you start posting in the RPG write a post here and fill in the aplication form with name/kingdom so that all other players know who you are
mos, please out of pretty clear reasons choose another name to stay correct as far as ME lore is concerned AND THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE:
Please stay true to the story in the bounds set by Tolkien: Don't bring any mumaks or ents, or eagles, or huge armies of Elves in the story... I took the liberty to quote something from the Atlas of Middle-earth for those who don't know the story so well:
Forces from Dol Guldur also went north and battled King Thrandùil under the trees of Mirkwood. There, too, the main battle was on March 15; and after "long battle . . . and great ruin of fire," Thrandùil emerged the victor. Eastern allies of Sauron, presumably from Rhûn, crossed the River Carnen and marched against the men of Dale and the Dwarves of Erebor. Once more the battle was joined on that important date of March 15, although this Battle of Dale was no one-day struggle, but lasted instead for three days. On March 17 King Brand fell before the Gate of Erebor, and King Dáin Ironfoot fought mightily over Brand's body before he, too, was slain. Then both Men and Dwarves were forced to retreat into the fastness of Lonely Mountain and were besieged, but the Easterlings could not win past the Gate. After the Ring was destroyed on March 25, when Sauron's servants were bereft of their driving force, all those who had been assaulted came forth and routed the remaining troops: Celeborn and Thrandùil to Dol Guldur; and the besieged in Erebor against the Easterlings. So the North was saved by their valor — and as Gandalf said, '"Think of what might have been. . . savage swords in Eriador, night in Rivendell.'"
Now you can for example see why I said in my post that the Elves didn't answer yet to the call - at that time they were fighting Orcs from Dol Guldur, so you can bring this event in the story as well
For orientation look at Thror's map in The Hobbit (keep in mind North is here to the left) or at the Map of Wilderland
Well lets not change what has already been done. I don't think we should follow the story exactly as its meant to be TM becuase we already have that version written out for us by Tolkien. As long as its within the realms of realism it should be ok.

Ok once the forces outside of Dale are almost slain I will lead an army out of the Mountain. If you do a post now TM and then in my next post I can start leading forces out.
Very well, good posts btw. Now all is ready for the final battle. The Easterlings will unfortunately prove to be to many and so the Dwarves and Men will eventually be forced to completely retreat out of Dale and take refuge in Erebor. Elves were not present, so help will probably only come once the mountain is under siege.
mos, you can for example take Thorin III Stonehelm as your next character, he was Dain's son.
Things are going to have to change from the books here TM. We need reinforcements. Either allow Thranduil to come with a few hundred Elves or allow an unlooked for army of Dwarves to come from the Iron mountains. Tell me which and I will add them in my next post.
Well seeing as this is our second lot of reinforcements and not wanting to drag an otherwise very good RP on too long I think its better if we simply win the battle in Dale now with Thranduils' help. Don't you think that would be best TM? Then Perhaps another RP can be created to do with the First Age.
Why do you say "drag"? I see nothing wrong in prolonging the end. We retreat, are besieged, word comes of Sauron's defeat in the south and then the final charge comes
A couple of facts first though... It hard to besiege a mountain with just 1000 troops. Its also hard to besiege a mountain when the 1000 besiegers have 300 Elves on there tail. If you really want to prolong it a bit longer I will TM but we know what the outcome will be.
Mos...Clearly, you don't know the basic rules of RPing as GM (Game Master) I have the RIGHT to post about changes in the storyline What you just did is really unfair, you have taken this decision, without waiting for any answer first, to end the battle, and the thread as well I initially planned on deleting your last post, but I thought it's not worth it anyway. As RPer in the game you have the right to give ideas, thoughts on the topic, but not to directly intervene Also, you have God Moded several times, you played god with characters other then your own and told what they did, this is also not allowed I am not expecting anyone here to be a perfect RPer, but after several RPGs in which I underlined this matter several times I thought it would be a known fact. As far as the ending I am definitely not happy. It makes the Easterling forces look far too week, when actually they were much stronger and managed to win the initial battle I am not saying we should follow the book completely, but I also disagree with a total change in the story. Too bad that a really interesting RPG in my opinion ended so abruptly... I guess that this will anyway probably be the last RPG I take part in here, but anyway, I even if I won't be active in the game itself please expect your posts to be edited or even deleted if you continue to disrespect the rules. Yours, TM
Well I gotta admit myself that I was growing tired of the RP and was considering abandoning it if it was prolonged. It has been a good RP but I think prolonging it would be needless and tiring. The Easterlings have one the initial battle the might. They won the initial battle in Eastern Dale. And it hasn't made the Easterlings look weak. They have in fact come close to winning against Dain on two occasions. Once when the first host of the Mountain came out and then again when the forces of the Iron hills were almost defeated. I suggest you read Mouthofsauon's last post. How can 1000 Easterlings besiege a mountain? How can 1000 Easterlings besiege a mountain when they have 300 Elves attacking them? And we could not have gotten the Easterlings to have even more reinforcements. Otherwise things would have started to get too far-fetched.
I for one I am happy with the way things have turned out. I will write my last post now.
