I just finished a drawling (not Tolkien related) and I want to draw a picture from the LotR. Not nesecarily from the LotR's trilagy, but one from Tolkien's world.
I'm not to good at landscaping, and I don't feel like drawling people. But I would like to draw a creature from middle-earth, or something. Not a Balrog though. Tried that once and everyone said that something was wrong with it. Some said it needed wings others said wings would be a descrace, diferent things. I ended up with a dark firey shape without wings, a tail (some said it needed a tail), and most facial expressions. Most people I showed it to asked what it was. So no Balrogs. But I'll try most everything else at least once. I'm on fall break now so I have some free time. Any ideas would help.
so...no landscape, no people, just creatures maybe Shelob in her lair... or Gollum in his cave in the Misty Mountains or Treebeard somewhere in the forest Smaug sitting on top of his treasure a Barrow-wight maybe Beorn in bear shape in the forest or Trolls in Moria
the list could go on and on but you should decide... I personally would like the one with Smaug... I mean I guess it is not so complicated... just some big stone walls, maybe some pillars as well in the background and in the center a huge pile of gold, gems, weapons, and the Arkenstone, and on top the red colouered Smaug...red-golden actually
Well, if I did one of Smaug, it would not look much like that. Its because I don't do colour. I mostly sketch, but I'm in the mood for an indepth drawling. But its still going to be black and white.
I like the idea of a Barrow-wight. Any idea what they looked like?
did you see Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban? I would imagine a barrow-wight looking like one of the dementors anyway, they are evil spirits of some kind (perverted Maiar or possibly spirits of Orcs, fallen Avari, or evil Men), they were sent to the Barrow Downs by the Witch-king of Angmar in order to prevent a resurrection of the destroyed Dúnedain kingdom of Cardolan. They animated the dead bones of the Dúnedain buried there, as well as older bones of Edain from the First Age which still were buried there. so I would imagine them as skeletons of men, wearing black cloaks like the Nazgul
(btw Tolkien at first foresaw a link between the wights and the Ringwraiths, initially describing the Black Riders as horsed Wights, but the suggestion that they were the same kind of creatures was dropped in the published work. In the final work there remained a link between them: the wights were now spirits sent by the Witch-king)
so, make a cloak, and the maybe some skeleton hands and skeleton heads visible through the cloaks.
btw, you could make a crown on the head of the wight it is speculated that Frodo and his friends were imprisoned in the barrow of the last prince of Cardolan so jewelry or crowns would not be a bad idea as far as the wights are concerned
you could also read the part in lotr again, where Frodo is captured in the barrow to learn more about the way the inside of the barrow looked like
I haven't seen any Harry Potter movie. I like the idea though. And I didn't really mean that I was only drawling a creature of some sort. I ment that creatures would be cool to draw. But, I am also willing to draw a castle/city of some sort. Maybe Minith-Tirith, or Gondolin. I alwas loved Gondolin. However, if I did one of these two, the drawlings of them I've already seen might invluence the way I draw them.
I am willing to draw a person or a landscape if I think of a good one that I feel like doing more than a creature or city.
you've lost me there... I knew artists were complicated...LOL anyway, if you need some information on a topic you want to draw I will be happy to help, but I guess you should first decide on your own on what exactly you want to draw.
Sorry, but thats my point. I don't know what exactly I want to draw. And yes, I am complicated. I've got ADD, and Deslexia. So it can be confusing some times.
I'm not sure what those things are, as I am not so good when it comes to more complicated terms in english I personally like mt I sometimes tke a piece of paper and draw it real quick...not smth great, but I try---lol
TM, ADD is when you can't consentrate for very long with out losing interest (theres more to it, but I wasn't paying atention to the docter.). And Dislexia, is when you get numbers and such mixed up. For example, I've been known to give try to by a $19.95 book, for $59.91. I also have a hard time with phone numbers too. I don't draw as much as I'd like because I can't stand siting down and drawling for more than an hour. Which is still very long for most people with ADD.
