RIDDLES IN THE DARK

Welcome members to the first edition of the "Riddles in the Dark" thread. The basic idea of the thread is a riddle-based trivia thread. And because it is very similar to trivia the rules are also the same: Just as in trivia we will have different topics. At the end of the time period, the thread will be closed and a new one opened, with a new topic.

Here's how it works:
1. You take a stab at the current riddle.
2. If your guess is correct, you get to post the next riddle.
3. If your guess is wrong, the riddle stands.
4. If you do not wish to post a riddle after a correct answer, you may yield the floor to whoever wants it.

Rules
*Riddles can be asked on any topic that has to do with the world of JRR Tolkien.
*Wait for the riddle asker to confirm your guess, even if you are sure it's right, before posting the next question.
*All forum rules apply.
*Any of the above rules broken will result in penalty which can be found in the FAQ.
*Have fun!
*Only if a new riddle is not introduced within two days after the previous was answered correctly can someone else post a new riddle.
*And a last rule, please keep the riddles clear and simple. Try to avoid any very old or complicated words as not all members have the same level in English. And also try to make sure that the words in the riddle only apply for one answer, as there are cases were certain things are valid for more then one place or character in Middle-earth.
*It would be nicer if the lines of the riddle would rhyme, but this is not compulsory.

I whence came over Dor Deadeloth,
Buring as I came,

All fled before me as I went,
As maiming was my game.

Could it be one of the great battles in the first age? Maybe Dagor Bragollach?

I'll say Glaurung.
He came in front of all the host.
All fled from him.
AndI do guess maiming was his game.

One of the two to bar the way
Not only in, but out too.
A while it lay in ruin before
Corrupted and made use anew.

nope...not Isildur...

so the answer I am looking for is one of 2 things, that block the way in and also out from a certain place. And these 2 things were in ruin for a time, but were then corrupted and used again.

Wait a second...

Could it be Carchost or Narchost? These two towers block the way in and out of Mordor, they once belonged to Gondor, then they were deserted and became 'corrupted' by Sauron.

I think you should stop saying that I should ask new stuff.
And I anyway don't even have to do that, as Eowyn was totally correct.

Okay, here is the next one:

Black as Death am I,

because I am made of metal

that comes not of this world;

No luck I bring to my owner,

Friend kills friend with my power.

Home of the River-daughter
She who with Orald goes.

I am gussing that it's the river Withywindle as the River Daughter was Goldberry and I think Orlad was Tom Bombadil. However, I could be totally wrong!

Right as two days is up I will ask a new one:

When they see me they are filled with dread,
For ever does my master's evil spread,

He oft uses my to smite his foes,
For I deal thunderous blows

Well, here's a new riddle, a rather easy one...

A city between mountains I am;

Behind 7 gates I'm hidden;

Under the eyes of the Eagles I am;

For foes of Turgon the entrance is forbidden;

His blow was deadly,
But his end was soon
For winter came,
And brought his doom.

not Arvedui either...
it is a person whose "blow" was literally deadly, as it brought death to one of his foes

I also would have said Arvedui, but if he's not, I have no idea...

of course...
he had a deadly blow because he killed his foe with his fist...that is why he is called Hammerhand
and winter brought his doom because afterh e was forced to take refuge in Helm's Deepm, a very hard winter came and that brought his death

you're next Eowyn

I am a descendent of Numenor,

though grown up at Mindolluin,

Now in the White City I stand,

Never dare to be green.
