He certainly ain't got what it takes to make me leave my man. I'm no man, but I don't have a man to leave...he's just gonna have a real tough time around here isn't he, haha!

hmm... I wonder... now, no offense to Haldir but I have a stupid idea now if Haldir had a girl...would he make her to leave her man...I mean leave him??? I dunno... hehe...
no it's just me always having stupid ideas... oh...yeah...I can imagine how that sounded
oh wait...that makes sense...make me leave my man... hmm...yeah...I cam think of Haldir as a ME Sex-symbol I bet it has somthing to do with the pointy ears and the long hair
I dunno I mean Haldir means "hidden one" maybe...it is his hidden side that is so sexy...I dunno or maybe because he was so old and had lots of experience
nope just a little quote from HOME 5 - Etymologies
SKAL(1)- screen, hide (from light). Q halya- veil, conceal, screen from light; halda (*skalna) veiled, hidden, shadowed, shady (opposed to helda stripped bare, see SKEL). ON skhalia-, skhalla; N hall; haltha- to screen. Ilk. esgal screen, hiding, roof of leaves. Dan. sc(i)ella shade, screen. Derivative name Haldir 'hidden hero' [DER] (son of Orodreth); also Ilk. Esgalduin 'River under Veil' (of [?leaves]). [There seems to be a query before the bracketed words at the end of the entry.] DER- Adult male, man (elf, mortal, or of other speaking race). Q ner, pl. neri, with n partly due to NI, NIS woman, partly to strengthened stem ndere bridegroom, ON daer [see NDER]. ON dir, EN + dir surviving chiefly in proper names (as Diriel older Dirghel [GYEL], Haldir, Brandir) and as agental ending (as ceredir doer, maker). Owing to influence of dir (and of strengthened ndisi bride) N goes the opposite way to Q and has di woman (see NDIS). In ordinary use EN has benn (properly = husband) [see BES].
so it would be something like, hidden one, hidden hero, hidden elf...
the particle "hal" means indeed tall, just not here.
well...it does, but not here hal is tall and dir is indeed one
but...haldir does not come from hal+dir it comes from skal+dir SKAL- screen, hide Derivative name Haldir 'hidden hero' [DER] (son of Orodreth); So in this case Haldir came from Skalder, which meant hidden one
Haldir- Not a problem! And I don't think I actually welcomed you yet, so welcome most cordially to the forums, I hope you have a great time! You might want to listen to TM on this one. In the HoME Etymology sample he gave you, it specifically mentions Haldir.
TM- And I see you're furnishing your usual quotations, explanations, and proofs.

ah, that isn't so bad for girls i mean...boys always have to be taller...I think it is better then you beeing 1m 90cm...you'd have trouble finding a taller guy...hehe... but Haldir was tall...actually are Elves were tall
hehe... I'm 17, but I have 5 girls in my class that are about your height...it isn't that bad... you know..height isn't really the most important thing for a girl...
haha ... i post aLOT in another forum tho i have the most posts there .. 7135 posts ... in ... er ... 3 months ... i was originaly supposed to have over 10000 but they deleted a section
