I was wondering what actual stone the Arkenstone of Thain was? Where di it come from? Ered Luin, Misty mountains or from Erebor itself. Was there more to be found somewhere or was it a gift from some fair group of beings from other lands?
Arkenstone of Thain? (Thrain?)Dunno if we are talking about same Arkenstone but i believe so. Arkenstone "Heart of the Mountain" was founded from Erebor and it stayed there almost all the time. It was once in Grey Mountains but it came back to Erebor and got to the Smaug's treasure where finally Bilbo found it. It (and also Orcrist)was placed to Thorin's tomb in deep of Erebor. There isn't any evidents what stone it was...

No probs Glor. In fact..that is quite intersting subject. Some people do think that Arkenstone was someway similar as Silmarils...any opinion about that thing?

The arkenstone was probably the same as the silmarils in the dwarves their eyes, but I don`t think the other races figured it to be as important as the dwarves thought it was..
The Dwarves liked everything and anything. I would say they would hold the Arkenstone in very high regards, but I think they would be far more baffled by a site of one of the three Silmarils.
you know Elu don't you the one married to Melian, living in Doriath... He summoned Dwarves from the Blue Mountains to set the Silmaril taken by Beren in the necklace Nauglamír, and the Dwarves became so enamoured of their work that they slew Thingol in his own treasury.
