Being new to this forum, I thought it polite to introduce myself.
I've been a Tolkien fan for a few years now. I've read The Hobbit, LoTR and The Silmarillion several times. I've also read Tolkien's biography, letters and a few books about him, but the more I know about him, the more I find that there is more to learn. I guess that's why I'm here!
Could I, please, be part of The Shire People? As an avid gardener I think it only fits!
Anyway, since I'm embarking on a new journey, allow me to finish with Bilbo's Song:
The road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began Now far ahead the road has gone And I must follow if I can Pursuing it with eager feet Until it meets some other way Where many paths and errands meet And whither then - I can not say.
Namarie!

Hello Nephredil, so nice to meet you. I hope you will enjoy yourself at the Forums. For the first few posts you will be " Being lies with Eru - Rank 1 "
You have to make a certain number of posts before you can become a Hobbit or any other race. So be patient and soon enough, you will have a chance to get your Hobbit Personae
Somebody our age should have no problem with patience.

Nephredil, Welcome! It sounds like you definitely have the background to participate and contribute on the Forums. I am only a member here but if I can be of help in any way please don't hesitate to ask whether through thread, by private message, or on the chatbox. As Lady Arwen suggests very soon you will be able to choose your "ranking" kingdom and custom avatar. My favorite Tolkien poem is "The Road Goes Ever On and On" and that last stanza is one I quote often at a letter's end.
There are some trivia threads like "Quotes", "Riddles In The Dark",
"Middle-earth A-Z ~Fourth edition", which generally turn over fairly quickly. That and other Tolkien themed trivia threads are great ways to get started. These really helped me learn more about Tolkien's works and worlds. There are many threads in our archives where a new or fresh perspective are always welcome. There is where discussion of Tolkien related topics sometimes receives some depth. Feel free to join an ongoing thread no matter what the date. And please know that if you wish to introduce a new thread you are welcome.
Is there a particular Tolkien book or character that draws your attention? Have you seen the films? Any Tolkien themes that commands your interest?
The main thing is that you are welcome. "and whither then? I cannot say." Again ~ Welcome, Bear an Elf-Friend

Thank you, Lady Arwen and Bear, for the warm welcome! Patience you counseled, and patience I shall exercise.
To your questions, Bear, I don't know if I have one favorite, although, if I had to pick one, it would, probably, be LoTR, because although it is fantasy, it comes across as very real and the characters are very human (even the ones which are not "human"!) in their ideals, emotions, motivation, struggles, etc. I think my favorite character is Faramir - I find him to be well rounded, even "wholesome" like a freshly cut leaf of Athelas!
I did see the movies and I liked them to some degree (especially the scenery and the music). I thought some of the deviations from the book were understandable and even necessary, but some were down right silly and annoying. I guess other forums may be more suitable for a longer discussion.
Thanks again for the kind words!
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate And though I oft have passed them by A day will come at last when I Shall take the hidden paths that run West of the Moon, East of the Sun
