Just wondering which quote you think are th most profound, or inspired that strange feeling inside you when at the end of a sad chapter of The sil you read something of profound sentiment. For instance...
"And tales and rumours arose along the shores of the sea concerning mariners and men forlorn upon the water who, by some fate or grace or favour of the Valar, had entered in upon the Straight Way and seen the face of the world sink below them, and so had come to the lamplit quays of Avallónë, or verily to the last beaches on the margin of Aman, and there had looked upon the White Mountain, dreadful and beautiful, before they died."
What are your favourites?

"And thus was the habitation of the Children of Ilúvatar established at the last in the Deeps of Time and amidst the innumerable stars."
"Yet of old the Valar declared to the Elves in Valinor that Men shall join in the Second Music of the Ainur; whereas Ilúvatar has not revealed what he purposes for the Elves after the World's end, and Melkor has not discovered it."
"And deep in their dark hearts the Orcs loathed the Master whom they served in fear, the maker only of their misery. This it may be was the vilest deed of Melkor, and the most hateful to Ilúvatar."
"But never even in the night have we believed that Melkor could prevail against the Children of Eru. This one he might cozen, or that one he might corrupt; but to change the doom of a whole people of the Children, to rob them of their inheritance: if he could do that in Eru's despite, then greater and more terrible is he by far than we guessed..." "Then the themes of Ilúvatar shall be played aright, and take Being in the moment of their utterance, for all shall then understand fully his intent in their part, and each shall know the comprehension of each, and Ilúvatar shall give to their thoughts the secret fire, being well pleased."
A small vision of the Universe 'Unmarred' as it were.
"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve" - Bilbo Baggins
That was said during Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday and toke a moment for me to originally work out, overall it's a compliment if I understand it well enough.
Oh, if this is for quotes from The Sil. then my mistake...

He stood upon the bridge alone and Fire and Shadow both defied; his staff was broken on the stone, in Khazad-dűm his wisdom died.
It is quite a complicated quote. The first part is a compliment but the second part seems to be saying that there is a large portion of the audience which Bilbo likes alot more than they really deserve. At least that is how I read it.
