So OK, I'm a wet blanket, and everybody likes the Brob-ding-dang-nabbit Bards except me. Not that they aren't novel.. for a minute or two... if it didn't override what I was listening to (or, should I forget to turn off my sound prior to arrival, the necessarily imposed silence in my house due to sleeping people who get up at stupid-o'clock in the AM), or if the control to shut it off were at the top of the pages (especially the very LONG pages). Sorry.
Alright, other people like it; but ya know, usage rights are often granted for promotion purposes, if you're not presenting whole albums, so a variety of relevant music might be introduced... A "Middle-Earth Radio" option (option being the key word, and it wouldn't surprise me if that specific name has been used already), which included whatever appropriate music could be had for free (yeah, even the dagnabbit bards), and just maybe embedded in such a way that it stays open while the site is open (separate window or frame, so that changing pages wouldn't interrupt the music) would be really cool.
I suppose I could see where your coming from about overiding other music. However I can think of one solution - simply come straight to the forum mainpage when you open internet Explorer or whatever browser your using. Completely bypass the Homepage. I personally quite like the music.
I wonder if some sort of collaboration could be formed with Radio Rivendell... ? That has streaming fantasy-style music. If it could somehow be legally incorporated into the Tolkien Forum page (rather than the Bro. Bards), I'd like that.
As far as I know it's just music, all originating from or inspired by some fantasy source.
I don't know much about streaming audio or web servers, but my understanding is that music takes a lot of bandwidth, and too many people requesting the stream can cause it to stop working smoothly for everybody.
I guess that unless they've got a powerhouse of a server, or there's a way to relay it so as not to use much of their bandwidth, they might hesitate to provide another website with the service. T'was a lovely idea though.
embedded in such a way that it stays open while the site is open (separate window or frame, so that changing pages wouldn't interrupt the music) I agree it is really cool
