Translation of 'Gothmog'
(Preview)
I have seen many translations to the word 'Gothmog', ranging from it meaning 'Voice of Melkor' to 'Son of Melkor'.
I have heard that 'Gothmog' translates to 'Kosomot' in Quenya, which in turn means 'Son of Melkor'.
However The Might has often provided things suggesting otherwise. Some clearan...

The Tolkien Tour

The Tolkien Tour. At last, it is now possible to recreate in its entirety the adventures in 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' from beginning to end and anything in between. Many of these paths are accessible by both foot and horse (or pony). Costumes are, of course, permitted. Each of the label...

Rings of Power

(Preview)
I'm surprised that this discussion hasnt began in this forum yet. I hope this question makes it to the advanced section because I think there is more to it than appears:
How many rings of power were forged by the Elves and what was their purpose?
I look forward to your answers.

A place called Morinore
(Preview)
According to some sources, the men of Numenor discovered a continent called Morinore (although it is a Quenya calque for Mordor it is not Mordor, it should be a place in the region of Australia/ New Zealnd/Papua). What is known about the place? In MERP wikia it is called Southernesse but did not find an...

Although it is known that Balrogs are corrupted maiar, what are dragons since all dragons originate from the Great Worm this means they are birthing animals/beings which would lessen my belief that they are corrupted maiar.

orcs life span and another ?
(Preview)
Do any of the books state the natural life span of an orc? By natural life span, I mean assuming that they aren't killed in battle, by each other or any unnatural death. Second question is, what do people think about the way orcs are visually presented in the movies. If the orcs were originally elves, but...

Although Numenor was a land of plenty why did the Valar make Andor, the Land of Gift so small? It it star shaped and would fit inside the realm of Mordor with room to share. Creation of the Orcs

I know its a common question, but I am interested in what the loremasters of this site have to say on the subject. How were the orcs created; from Elves, from Men, or some other alternative.
