Beginning Sindarin Course
(Preview)
I like to thank our Eru for opening this Languages of Arda Forum for me. I also like to thank all of you who have shown an Interest in Learning Sindarin. I told The One, that learning a new language requires a Stick to it attitude. I believe you all possess this. So without further ado, here is the first less...

Origins of Galadriel
(Preview)
I know that this may simple to some of you, but I know very little about the origins of Galadriel. All I know is, the following.
She was the Lady of the Golden Wood who harboured the Fellowship during the War of the Ring. Wife of Lord Celeborne. She was of Noldor race and was the great...

Question on the 3 Elven rings.
(Preview)
So, Sauron helped Celebrimbor with making the seven and the nine rings and put some of his power into them so he could control those who wore them. Does anyone know what source of "magic" Celebrimbor used to power the three for the elves? Elves have some limited powers but the three were powerful and th...

Galadriel
(Preview)
I've seen it posted in other threads about Galadriel seeking pardon from the Valar before returning to Valinor.
I'm looking for something to substantiate that claim, as I understood that the Noldor were pardoned after the War of Wrath with the possible exception of Maglor. I thought that the No...

Was Legolas married?
(Preview)
As far as I remember, according to "Laws and Customs among the Eldar", elves were of age when they were 50 and usually got married soon after they were of age. Some of them got married much later (for instance, Luthien, Arwen...) and some didn't get married at all, but those were rather rare...

Dior Eluchil
(

(Preview)
When Dior Eluchil, son of Beren and Luthien, was killed, did his spirit go to the Halls of Mandos? The same question goes for Elured and Elurin, his sons, and remember that their mother was 100% elf. These 3, after all, never got a "choice".

Why the Silmaril?
(Preview)
Maybe I have just forgotten, but a question just struck me while posting in another thread.
In the midst of war against Morgoth, Thingol demands a Silmaril from Beren. This seems extraordinarily odd on the part of Thingol. If he wanted an impossible task completed, why not simply demand that Ber...

The Fate of Maglor
(Preview)
I am wondering is anyone knows what became of Maglor, son of Feanor? It says in the Silmarillion that he disposed of the Silmaril in the Great Sea and ever after kept playing music on the western Shores of Middle-earth. However I doubt very much he was still there in the Third Age. What happened to him? -...

I am just wond...

From what we are told, the Gift of Men releases men from the woes of this world and frees them to visit Illuvatar's glory in the next. They will take part in the singing-in of the next world. Elves, on the other hand, are bound to Arda until the world ends. The get to: Hang out in Valinor, hang out in th...

Feanor killing his mother?

A quoted I don't understand: "Such was his strength of spirit that his mother Míriel passed on to the Halls of Awaiting after his birth." Why did Miriel leave after Feanor was born. When she delivered Feanor did the process kill her body? I am confused about this passage.

Basic Elf: Tolkien has created divisions in the peoples of the First Born, the Eldar. I have become confused by these divisions of the various different Elven groups. Can someone tell me who exactly these characters are? Pengoloo I heard was a sage in Gondolin but nothing more I can find. As for Aelfwine I have no dear who he is but these two people seem to be a focal point for advanced lore, particularly in the History of Middl-earth volumes.

This is actually regarding Glamdring, Orcrist, and Sting. Does anyone know just how Turgon's sword ended up in Middle-Earth? And is there any mention of who owned Orcrist or Sting? Were all three weapons from Gondolin?
These are just some questions that I never heard a proper answer for.

(Preview)
Is the Glorfindel from the First age the same one as in the First age? I heard he and his people escaped to eagles cleft and encountered orcs and a Balrog. Glorfindel engaged in combat with the Balrog to allow the others to escape. There he perished after falling into the abyss with the Balrog.
