RE: Best scene(s) in the movies?

Yes he must have been crushed, all that hard work gone down the drain. I'd feel sorry for him if he didnt deserve it. But he did, so i dont. :P

One of my favorite sequences in the LotR films is Sam's speech at the close of The Two Towers; and it was really quite accurate to the book. (just augmented here and there) Tolkien wrote incredible dialog.smile

Actually I meant both of them; the second one (Samwise the Brave)

is more accurate to the text than the first. But I love them both.smile

One of my favorite scenes would have to be when the Three Hunters (or is it Runners, can't recall...) in TTT find the pile of Orc bodies at the eaves of the Fangorn forest after meeting Eomer. When Aragorn kicks the Orc Helm and screams, I thought that brought the audience into their frustration really well. Plus every time I show that scene to friends I always get a kick out of telling them how Viggo Mortensen actually broke his foot on the Helm causing that genuine reaction. It works so well in the film and the fact that Viggo didn't break character just shows his professionalism. Awesome!

Did he really break his foot? That's spectacular! I had never heard that before, what a pro to keep in character!

And he broke two toes. He's such an amazing actor, he did a whole scene with a crippled foot! :)

Huan you can find that fun fact in full in the Extended Version of TTT in the special features. They show a still of the aftermath, we're talking blood and twisted digits...Wow! If you noticed in some scenes, especially in Edoras when there is a helicopter shot of Aragorn running up the stairs of Meduseld after he sees the beacons' fire he's got a noticeable hobble going on. It gave him a style, believe it or not, one they used in the Video games. That signature hobble. Way too cool.

Ha! That's great. I've still never seen a single extended addition of any of the three movies

I never knew that. So he kept in-character despite a broken foot and they chose that take to use in the film itself?

That is correct Glorfindel! I'm sure you remember the yell of frustration as he kicked the Orc helm in the Two Towers...that was genuine pain focused by a great actor.

another scene that I loved was when Gollum and the Ring fall into mount doom and Sauron and his tower fall. Amazing.

Epic Huan. I dug the whole scene where Gandalf falls with the Balrog in the beginning of TTT. What an intro!

My favorite scene - the Balrog on Khazad-dûm.
My favorite specific moment: The exchange in Osgiliath between Frodo and Sam - Frodo: "What are we holding onto, Sam?"  Sam: "That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

Sometimes when I feel this world is going to hell I remember that quote. There is SOME good still, and as long as there's even a little bit, we should keep fighting for it.

Great scene Teralectus, and allow me to welcome you here. I'm a little behind but Welcome and well met.

Another great scene from The Two Towers is the Battle of Helm's Deep when after the Deeping Wall is broken and the Uruks are charging in. Aragorn recovers from the fall and as soon as Gimli has slipped in front of the enemy he commands a volley of arrows, which takes out a whole row of Uruks, then he immediately readies his sword and shouts the Charge in Elvish. "HERIO!!!!!" That scene never fails to fire me up!!!

One of my favorite scenes is sort of a quiet step back from the action and adventure stuff.
It is in the first movie, before "The Long-expected Party", where Bilbo and Gandalf are sitting outside at sunset, smoking their pipes and blowing smoke rings.  I would love to be part of their company with my pipe and a good mug of coffee ... (sigh)

Visually, I think the with the balrog was pretty darned cool.

But, my personal favorite in PJ's movies is the Ride of the Rohirrim to Minas Tirith. Horses thundering across a plain always gets me.

And while I realize this thread was probably geared to PJ's movies, I have to mention that I love Rankin and Bass's Return of the King when Eowyn kills the Lord of the Nazgul.
