Swords

Id like to make myself a sword, and not wooden, but i cant find any pages on where there are any guides to make swords besides made of wood. Something more resistant than wood would be very useful. I want to do one myself because: i aint got the money at the moment to buy one and selfmade are always dearer and better handable.

I believe the site you are looking for is anvilfire. Swordsmithing is neither easy nor cheap. It would be best if you simply purchased a quality blade or replica.

Personally I prefer the katana and the rapier, and the use of both is still widely taught today.

oh yeah, my dad has a katana, but he doesn't even let me touch it...says Id probably brake something...
still, japanese swords are indeed very sharp, but not so efficient. For example in close combat a medieval sword would brake the katana into pieces, and the katana couldn't do much because of the bery good armor Europeans had in that time.

you can always buy yourself Sting or Anduril in an online shop, but I'd say do as Celethil suggested - Online LOTR swords look good but aren't anything more then a decorational object.

TM - I have to say that you are wrong about your assumptions that a katana is inferior to a claymore, long, or broadsword. In fact the blades of most katanas are more durable than those used in the west, and you have to understand that the Japanese use them differently. As for armor, the katana is a piercing weapon and a slicing weapon, easily capable of piercing medieval armor.

As for the monetary aspect, there is no getting around it unless you can convince someone to purchase one for you or donate one to you.

I think that you should save up and buy one. Even if you could make a sword it would take years to learn how to make one that would be perfectly balanced and shaped.

If you have any kind of RenFests nearby, you can acquire one for around $20. Even if you go out and have to knock on doors and ask if yo could mow somebody's yard, you could get it in a couple of weeks.

I bought my self a katana from a store called the House of Knifes, they got a lot of sharp things and swords ranging from $50 to $2000 in Canadian $'s. I doubt you'll have a House of Knifes where you are (but I dunno you might!) but that tells you that you can get a sword for less than a $100.

The one I bought was $200 it's not the best but it gets the job done. It puts the fear of the pink ninja in people's lives. Muha ha ha ha haaaaa!
