Bilbo Baggins

Can anyone tell me why did not Bilbo Baggins as he had found the ring in the first place,  did not have the journey to Mount doom to dispose of it instead of Frodo. Was there a reason for this?

Because in that time, only he and dwarves (later though) knew of it, and they didn't know if it was either just a magic ring, or The One, and they had probably never thought that the ring survives/ or it even exists. And Bilbo didn't probably know of Sauron either.

I guess no one knew its real power and its history, wasn't it Gandalf, after Bilbo 'gave' it to Frodo, who came up to the young Hobbit telling him what he had to do with it, since he had done a lot of researches on the ring?

because he hid it.
Gandalf suspected something, but never did he think about the One Ring.
actually Gandalf had a lot more trouble in that time - Saruman especially. (and driving Sauron out of Dol Guldur)
that is why he didn't realise what Bilbo had.
and after Bilbo left it was too late
only at the party did he realise what he had.

The others have given reasons from the books, but besides that when Tolkien first wrote The Hobbit, he did not intend on doing any further books.  The Ring Bilbo found was simply a magical ring, and as he began writing LOTR it turned into The One Ring.  Just like "the Necromancer" in The Hobbit, ended up being Sauron.  Just as the Elven King turns out to become Thranduil, and at this time Legolas wasn't a character created by Tolkien yet, therefor there is nothing of him in The Hobbit.

very true
just wanted to add a few things
that is also why for example Tolkien had such a problem to explain the presence of some strange creatures in the Hobbit as the giants.
some ideas however, such as the eagles he maintained
but others such that of trolls talking the Common Speech such as the three trolls in the hobbit he discarded.

Did he really? I did not know that. I just thought it was the Olog-hai who could not speak it. (Goes imagining the Witcking with 'how to learn English' in front of trolls teaching').

IMHO, The Ring had too much of a hold on Bilbo, for him to even attempt the journey, it would have utterly failed. As it was, were it not for Gollum, Frodo would have failed as well.

Don't forget this either, by the time the ring was determined to be the One Ring, Bilbo was in Rivendell, and had aged a great deal. Frodo had the Ring for well over 17 years before leaving the shire, which means Bilbo would have been over 128 years old.
