I really like this site, i can give out my opinion on anything or ask anything i want to know, it is really nice ! I am reading the lost tales so i might need some help eventually! LOL

Is it just me or doesn't anybody else think that the plaza has too many members? You say 'How can a site have too many members'? I reply - almost 80 000 - they are taking a massive portion of the world Tolkien fans who are interested in Forums.


I think it is unfair to sites like this - which are indeed worthy of far more members than they have - that plaza should be forced to share a bit more. I here they are very tight with sparing there members too!

tight? oh no they are not afraid of us, they are rather afraid of what happens inside their own site, of people like Elenhir that say what they think.
I think we are one of their smallest worries, but I am sure they aren't pleased with us existing. Of course the net is free for all so they won't do anything, not directly anyway.

You yourself said you think this site is 'better' in your opinion and I agree! Far less complicated and sometimes more advanced in content. To have 80 000 members I think is ridiculous.

glorfindel, tight with their members?  I really don't think that to be the case myself, since I have not heard anything slanted towards this site at all.  I'm quite happy to be a member of both sites myself.  I'm not going to comment either way on which I think to be better (I'm actually still undecided on this fact), but I will comment upon your issue with the Plaza's size.  The 80 000 or so members on the Plaza are the number of people registered, not the number of people active.  Therefore, you have to remember that only a small percentage on the Plaza are actually there on a regular basis, making the site much smaller than the numbers lead one to believe.

That true you know, and if you look at how many people are active, it's really a very small percentage...You actually really get to know people, and the advantage to having more people is if you have a question or concern you get a response much more quickly. I'm not going to say which one is better, just that they both have advantages and disadvantages...

I don't think the Plaza is vindictive like that, though I could be biased or nieve. I think it's good that many people can be, and are involved, and the plaza has been going more than 3 years (or 4?), (how long has this place been going, sorry? I don't know) And I agree that a small proportion are active members. So many have left, and a whole tonne have never even posted ; ) And look how many people have come here from the plaza, I wouldn't be here if I didn't know Neth/Eonwe from there!

I like the way that this thread turned out!
You didn't mentioned people who registered twice (and maybe even more) so it might be smaller number than 80000 but anyhow it is still a very large member... I'm really surprised!

true...well actually I have all the chocolate in a really big coloured egg.
but it would be hard to hide the egg...it is big and golden and has a lot of colours...hmm
and I also have an egg made of chocolate...something like a Kinder Surprise egg
but I also can#t hide it well...and even if I would, I would know where I hid it, I have to give it to someone else so he can hide it for me...

Gosh Tinuviel... you were right about this thread, lol! First of all, welcome luunamielkay!


Second of all... the plaza has been around since Jan of 2002 I'm pretty sure, which means people have been celebrating at the most their fourth plazaversaries. I disagree with the thought that the plaza has too many members, and not willing to share them. Like Elendil pointed out, not all of their members are active. And I would think that the plaza's R/A's and any staff members there wouldn't really care about the exsistence of sites like this; they've already got enough to worry about.


So something against us, TM? Like... what possibily? I don't think they feel threatened in any way, and I don't think they hog all the Tolkien fans. It's up to the fans themselves to register onto other sites, such as this one.


 


Ah, anyway! Onto the new discussion lol. Happy Easter everyone I don't get anything for Easter anymore sadly. *tries not to read about all the chocolate*

listen, the plaza is a great place for tolkien fans
it isn't perfect, but there is no reason to call it god damn plaza...I mean it is the way this site appeared. Without plaza the site wouldn't exist, or at least it wouldn't be like this.
I am happy the plaza exists even though I do not agree with all things that happen there, and even though I am suspended

The plaza started off small too... every site does. It just somehow got lucky, and multiplied to what it is now, four years later.
