New Tolkien Book, "Beren and Lúthien" coming May 2017!

So, from my Facebook feed I received glad tidings of a new Tolkien, stand alone book coming out due in May 2017:  "Beren and Lúthien"!

Seems it will do much like "The Children of Hurin" did, expanding the story of Beren & Luthien, plus have alternate tellings of the story as he reworked the tale through the years, in the back of the book.  They said that this book is being released 100 years after Tolkiens wife Edith danced for him in a woodland glade in east Yorkshire.

I cant wait to add this to my collection!

New Tolkien Book,

I'm very excited too! Even if Bergen and Luthien are not my favorite characters, they may be my favorite story.

I just ordered the Deluxe edition now from Amazon. It should arrive in about 15-20 days by their estimates. I am very curious to see what it is all about and read it, and then hopefully discuss it here with you.

RE: New Tolkien Book, "Beren and Lúthien" coming May 2017!

In the meanwhile, I found this article about the book, of which I am going to quote a paragraph:

Isolating the thread of the Beren and Lúthien story, Christopher (now 92) walks a difficult line, but successfully conveys its evolution by making generous selections from Tolkiens own versions, with some bridging comments of his own. The book includes the early Lost Tales plus nearly 3,000 lines of a verse version begun in 1925 and abandoned in 1931, The Lay of Leithian. Interspersed are portions of chronicle-style retellings from successive Silmarillions written in 1926, 1930 and 1937 the last of these abandoned in mid-flow when a publisher demanded a sequel to the newly published Hobbit instead.

If I understand correctly, this will be far more 'patchy' than the Children of Hurin, but although I have read everything on this tale that has previously been published in the Silmarillion and HoMe, I am still curious how Christopher has edited the story now.
