Isillune

Hello!

I'm not actually a beginner Tolkien fan: I read "The Lord of the Rings" almost 8 years ago. But it's my first post into this forum and into an English forum in general. Well, let me say a few words of myself. I'm a linguist. My favourite work by Tolkien is "The Silmarillion" and my favourite character is Daeron the Minstrel. English isn't my native language, so please don't judge me strictly if I make mistakes. =) I've already read "The Lord of the Rings" and "Unfinished Tales" in the original. Besides, I've tried to learn Quenya and Sindarin. I'll be glad to find new friends.

Isillune

Isillune,
Welcome to the Tolkien Forums.
I think you will find this site might be just what you are looking for.
I am just a member with no official status ... I'm just a neighbor extending a hand of welcome.
You will find that we have several members whose native in tongue is other than English and we have members who use Quenya and Sindarin often.  (Lady Arwen and Galin are two I can think of off hand.)
We have members from all over the world.
We also enjoy new members who breath life back into threads like you did when you answered the "favorite Silmarillion character thread"..
I am an American so you and I are on opposite time zones.  But if you have any questions I will be happy to help.  Just send me a private message or if we are on line at the same time our Forum's have a chat box found just above the latest posts.
Again  ...Welcome!
Glad you gave us a try.
Bear an Elf-Friend

Hello, and welcome.

I guess I give the impression that I use Elvish biggrin

I certainly don't think Neo-elvish is bad, but outside of indulging in (trying to construct) a name now and again, that's about it (I may have tried my hand at a genitival phrase here or there, but today I can't even remember the last time that happened).

Anyway it's great to see someone interested in Tolkien's languages, and a linguist at that!

Again, welcome!

Didn't quite get "Ian Le?". I suppose it means "How are you?", doesn't it? If so, fine, thanks. =)
Well, Isillune is a Quenyan name and as the whole sentence is in Sindarin, the address should be in Sindarin, too, shouldn't it? Ithilluin, actually. =)

I just realised I had not offered my welcome. My humble apologies, and greetings from Glorfindel!

Hmm, I'm confused a bit... as far as I know mae govannen is Sindarin, from Glorfindel's Ai na vedui Dúnadan! Mae govannen! greeting to Aragorn in The Fellowship of the Ring.

No? smile
